Songs and the lives behind them

Songs from some parts of the world may involve different singing styles, unfamiliar harmonies and arrangements, different scales and different rhythmic patterns. Our aim is to make the songs that we collect as accessible as possible. We try to always publish songs with the words and the music, some indication of how the song would traditionally be arranged, an English translation and an explanation of what the song is about. Where possible we try to make sense of different musical conventions so that anyone can understand and enjoy the music. More than anything, we value people’s individual stories about why a particular song is important to them.
