Zhi Yao Whu Zang Da - Taiwan
David Chang, who lives with his young family in Netherthorpe, told us
“It’s probably the most popular and the first song learnt by many children in Taiwan... even now. "I guess this is because their parents were born in that era. So they teach their children this song.... and it's easy to learn anyway. "It means something like ‘ brothers and fathers, they are great. They go to the army, as a soldier and fight for the country. It’s sort of a kids song, to teach children to be patriotic…” The song and the lyrics were written by BAI Jing-Shan in 1950. The song won the first prize of a competition organised by the Chinese Cultural and Arts Committee in Taiwan. This song was written a year after the Nationalist government moved from China to Taiwan in 1949.” |
